About Me
My Journey
Hello, I'm Hannah Bowman, a freelance Persian to English translator and the founder of Hamahang Translation, established in 2023. My journey into translation began after obtaining a Bachelor of Languages degree from the Australian National University, majoring in Persian with a minor in Arabic. Furthering my education, I pursued a Master of Social Work degree from Deakin University, completed in 2018, before embarking on a Master of Translation degree at RMIT University, which I'm currently undertaking and expected to complete in 2026.

My translation career spans various sectors, including legal, medical, and community development, with a particular focus on health, immigration, and legal services. I've honed my skills through translating identity documents, medical records, and subtitling Persian audiovisual materials into English. Prior to my translation journey, I served as a dedicated social worker, providing settlement support, counseling, and case management for organizations like the Australian Red Cross and the WA Department of Child Protection.
My commitment to continuous learning and professional development is evident through my memberships in esteemed associations such as the Australian Association of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT) and the Australian Association of Literary Translators (AALITRA). Equipped with cross-cultural communication expertise, a knack for research, and proficiency in tools like SDL Trados Studio 2022, I ensure precision and cultural sensitivity in every translation project.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I'm deeply engaged in voluntary work, supporting asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants in their settlement journey. These experiences have enriched my understanding of cultural diversity and reinforced my dedication to facilitating meaningful communication across linguistic boundaries.
